It’s very common to see a young boy or girl with gray hair. In fact now age doesn’t have to do much with the hair graying problem as it used to do a century ago. There could be many reasons for premature graying of hair. The premature graying problem is largely genetic. Hair follicles contain pigment cells that produce melanin, which gives your tresses their color. When your body stops generating melanin, hair presents itself as gray, white, or silver. Ethnicity also determines how soon you  gonna have gray tresses. Your diet is another major factor that effects your hair condition.




The main contributors to premature hair graying could be ;


  • Ageing or growing older
  • Hereditary
  • Stress
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Albinism
  • Vitiligo
  • Malnutrition
  • Tobacco
  • Pollution
  • Improper care of hair

So the question arises can this be slowed down or prevented? According to the latest research you cannot reverse this process. No medication can actually cure this phenomenon. So you should beware of those fake brands that boast of making your hair black again.

There are a few tested natural home remedies which do help this problem. Even if they don’t exactly make your hair black again but they still slow down this process of premature graying hair. Also they pose no harmful side effects.

. Ginger:

Grate half a teaspoon amount of ginger and mix it with a tablespoon of honey must be taken on a daily basis for preventing hair from turning grey.

. Ghee (Clarified butter):

Ghee is a very common ingredient used in Indian/Pakistani cuisine. Massaging with pure ghee or clarified butter, twice in a week, curbs the problem of grey hair.

. Indian Gooseberry (Amla) :

Indian gooseberry, or amla, is excellent for a variety of hair problems including premature graying, dull hair, and hair loss. Being rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, it has anti-aging benefits. In addition to consuming this fruit, you can also apply amla oil or amla pulp on your hair. Decoction of amla can cure grey hair in just fifteen days. To prepare this decoction, soak a few pieces of amla for a few hours and add 1 spoon of eucalyptus oil. Store this mixture in an iron container overnight and apply this decoction with an egg, lemon juice and curd in the morning.

. Curry Leaves (Curry Patta):

Curry leaves help increase darker pigmentation in your hair. When combined with coconut oil, it works as a great hair tonic. Boil some curry leaves in coconut oil till it turns black. Apply this on your scalp as a hair tonic for treating the problems of hair loss and pigmentation.

. Henna:

Henna works as a wonderful natural hair colorant. Besides making your hair darker, it will strengthen and condition your lustrous locks. A mixture of 2 spoons of henna powder, 1 spoon of fenugreek paste, 2 spoons of basil leaves paste, 3 spoons of coffee, 3 spoons of mint juice, and 1 spoon of yogurt is proved to be very effective for treating grey hair. Apply this mixture regularly to get good results.

. Coconut Oil and Lemon Juice:

Coconut oil works wonders for your hair. It moisturizes your hair, stimulates hair growth, fights infections, and adds luster to your hair. When used for a prolonged time, it also helps reverse gray hair because it is packed with antioxidants. Massage coconut oil and lemon juice on the scalp to get black and shiny hair.
